Lost 3.16- One of Us (Juliet-centric)

Another great episode. Leah and I were right, Juliet’s a plant. But here’s three questions:

1. is she doing what Ben wants or does Ben just think she’s doing his bidding?

2. what is she supposed to learn while she’s there? or she supposed to learn anything. Maybe she’s just supposed to distract them from pursuing the others while they are wherever they are.

3. Does she hold a grudge for the losties killing Goodwin and Ethan?

It seemed as though one of the continuing themes was that Ben is not a liar to his own people. We know he’s lied to the losties, but that was while he was captured. But if he’s dealing with his people, then he doesn’t lie. That’s why I think that he is using Juliet under the possibility that she will get off the island for cooperation.

Does Jack really trust her? I think he does. he trusts her because she wants off as bad as they do. To him, that makes her ‘one of us’. But what he doesn’t realize is that she wants off so badly that she’s willing to do almost anything. She’s gone with the plan so long now, she’s had enough.

And what’s the deal with the cancer. We now know that Ben knew he had cancer before the crash. Did he ask for a back surgeon in the ‘box’?

One cool anagram: the airline that they took Juliet to was Herarat Airlines. How about “Earhart” airlines? once you get on the plane, you don’t come back.

Here’s a theory I saw somewhere else and how will bring here: Did the Submarine Actually Do Anything?

    1. we never actually saw it in action.

    2. they drugged Juliet, so she has no memory of it working.

    3. Could they bring them through the box, and the submarine is just a decoy?

    4. Remember when Ben said to bring him the man from tallahassee? did he come in the sub? I don’t think so, since Locke blew it up between that time and seeing his dad.

    5. Ben sent the guy to tape Juliet’s nephew and sister. At the end he told him to get back quickly. submarine does not equal quickly.

    6. I believe Ben told Juliet there is still a way to get off the island. That’s why she’s willing to be a plant. He convinced her that he doesn’t lie, so she just has to trust him.

Locke’s father had arrived early that morning, I believe, via “the box.” It was mentioned in the dialog.

However, the submarine-as-nothing certainly makes a certain amount of sense.

And you can’t convince you came up with Earhart yourself!

Brilliant, brilliant episode. The revealing twist at the end was just amazing.

oh, no, I did not come up with the anagram. didn’t mean to sound like I did. almost everything I say, except that the fence was built to keep out the monster, is from other people.

A mom not waking up to her baby’s crying… yeah right.

I like how the episode lead you to believe that Julliette was tricked adn just an in innocent scientist who didn’t know what she was getting herself into… and then at the end she’s conspiring with Ben.

I think Ben does lie to his people- he lied to Julliette during the episode. He says he does whatever he has to to manipulate people

Tim you make a good point about the sub not working… i never thought of that.Because how is thhe man going to get back to the island.Ben does like to play mind games so it would not be unlike him to do that .so i think you make a good point

i think there is a difference between lying and manipulating with ben. When Ben tells one of his people that he’ll do something, he does it. But when it comes to getting them to do things, he’ll manipulate them. I think there is a difference there.

I missed the first half of the episode because I was at the meeting. I forgot to set up the tape ahead of time, and subsequently it just didn’t work out. Sooo…I missed a lot. What is the part about a mother not hearing her baby cry? What promises did Ben make to Juliet?

I was sooo willing to believe Juliet and I feel naive for believing her. However, she’s still a little like the Cheshire cat. You’re never quite sure what’s going on inside her head. She may be appearing to cooperate with Ben, but is she really?

I suppose the entire thing about her telling Jack to kill Ben and her subsequent brand on her back was to win Jack’s protective trust. Rotten…
