I may have missed something, but what made Desmond so sure that it would be Penny who landed on the island? And why does the lady who did land look so familiar?

  2. ehudadams said,

    1. because she was in his vision. But it didn’t look like the vision that she was in took place on the island.

    2. because he wanted it to be her so badly.

I didn’t recognize the lady at all.

yes, I am still alive jsut having major problems with the hook up at home the past several weeks!!

LOST….whoa! First off here is my thought on Juliet, she is playing Ben and Jack. Ben so that she can get off the island, are they threatening her sister to keep her on the island? so is she making Ben happy to keep her alive? Jack…is she pretending with him because of Goodwin? Obviously they were an item. I think she just wants off the island so she is trying to play everyone and be on the look out for herself…

Desmond, well…the thought that he almost let Charlie die was enough for me and I bet the next time he has a sequence of flashes he will make sure that he doesn’t let anything change. Who was that girl? The picture was a photocopy of his so someone else has the origional. Did Penny send that person out to find him? Remember back to the last episode last year…in the artic somewhere those guys that called Penny when the plane crashed. or when there was a reading at that time for whatever reason…

K, that is just a bit really quick so that you didn’t think I fell off the face of the earth! We leave tomorrow for our interview so I will not be hooked up this coming week!! enjoy chatting about it!!

This hurts my brain…but here goes…

    The Title: Catch-22
The book by Joseph Heller was in the jumper’s backpack. Very frustrating book (and movie!) …it takes place in WW 2 and concerns aviators flying missions. The only way out is to be insane, but if you try to get out by saying you’re insane, then that proves your really sane. In a nutshell: the insane thing to do is to be sane [fly into battle]; the sane thing to do is to be insane [to try to avoid flying into battle]. It’s circular logic.

How would this circular logic be reflected on the island? Perhaps by having something that doesn’t REALLY exist [Charlie's death] have such a profound effect on what DOES exist [Desmond deciding whether or not to save Charlie, Charlie's attitude in light of it, etc.].

    The Woman Who Landed:
She speaks Portugese, just like the guys in the Arctic Station. Unfortunately, the only guy on the island that we know who can speak Portugese just died [Paolo]!

    Brother Campbell:
Hmmm…he had a picture of that weird white-haired lady who had talked to Desmond [Mrs. Hawkins?] about “destiny” and not trying to change it.

Since many characters are named after philosophers…check this out: “George Campbell” was a Scottish Enlightenment Philosopher who took on David Hume. Hume said all knowledge is based on “experience” and discounted Biblical miracles. Campbell said knowledge is based upon biblical “testimony”. He pointed out man’s natural belief in miracles, pointing to children’s acceptance of miracles (they have to learn NOT to believe).

    Mt. Moriah, Jacob & Isaac:
We know all about that story. Of course, LOST missed the entire point of that – God would have resurrected Isaac if necessary.

    The Brand on Juliet’s Back:
I came across something from an earlier episode, “One of Us” – there was the same symbol on a tree. It looks like the same symbol that was burned onto Juliet’s back…AND it’s a Russian letter of the alphabet.

Phew…That’s it for now. [And welcome back, Jen!! I've been wondering where you were!]

That was tense… I kept on realizing I wasn’t breathing at the breaks.
I feel so awful for Kate- that forced “casual” conversation with Jack was painful to watch!
Saywer’s antics are great. “What are you discussing- who is your favorite other?”
    I’m so glad nobody died.

I can’t speak for the familiarity of the pilot, but Desmond is more hopeful than convinced Penny is looking for him. There were references to her employing her significant financial resources to tracking him down.

Of more interest might be: Helicopter gets near the island; helicopter develops engine trouble and crashes. What’s causing that?

Are we allowed to discuss the previews for next week?

  8. ehudadams said,

NO! no discussing previews! I’ve stopped watching them because they show too much. It’s just better to watch without know what will happen. You go into it with an empty slate and no expectations.

  9. rachaph said,

They don’t show previews when you watch it online.

  10. BethsMomToo said,

Yeah, there are problems with the previews. It seems they tend to take scenes out of context, leading you to think they mean something TOTALLY different than what they actually end up meaning. It’s also better to see everything in CONTEXT…just like how we study our Bibles! ;) That’s a good point. Maybe I won’t watch the previews any more…oooh….that would be tough!

[Although, I don't even remember the previews from last week. The benefit of age and a mind full of other things!]

So, Doug…it was more Desmond’s DESIRE that it be Penny? They never actually SHOWED him seeing it be Penny? This is important to the point concerning whether or not Desmond CHANGED multiple destinies by saving Charlie (again). If yes, then we are led to believe that it WOULD have been Penny if he had let Charlie die. I know Desmond THINKS this…but I’m not sure that it is, in fact, accurate.

I just did a little sleuthing. Marsha Thomason played the character “Naomi”, whom I presume was the woman who landed on the island. I looked her up on IMDB and found she has appeared in 5 episodes of Lost in 2007! If I have this right [no guarantee on my sleuthing abilities!] then this character looks familiar because we have seen here 5 other times this season…as the character “Naomi”. Is she an “Other” who has returned to the island the best way she could without the submarine…? Who remembers her?

  12. rachaph said,

Maybe she will be appearing in episodes we haven’t seen yet.

The previews sound like the previews on Arrested Development- they purposefully didn’t have anything to do with the show.

  13. BethsMomToo said,

Rachap – you’re brilliant…but we already knew that! The other five episodes have not been aired yet! I still thought she looked familiar, but I don’t know why. Of course, I COULD be completely mistaken and she just reminds me of someone else!

  14. ehudadams said,

yeah, that’s what I was thinking. I was just thinking she’d be in the last episodes. I didn’t recognize her at all. if you’re looking on imdb, look at what episodes she’s given credit for. that will tell you if she’s been on the show before.

    next episode….lets go!! :)
