Lost- Orchid Hatch Video

December 21, 2007 at 1:48 pm (Lost)

For those of you who haven’t read the past post, we’re bringing Lost back! Recently, I noticed that there is a new Orchid Hatch Orientation Video.

As I saw it, I noticed quite a few things that were in it that I thought were curious. I looked around, and couldn’t find anything, so I’ll throw them up here and maybe we can work on it together.

In the video we find our friend, Dr. Edgar Halliwax (spelling?) and a rabbit with a 15 on the side. He is introducing the sixth station, the Orchid Station. The people in it were told it would be botanical in nature, but now it should be obvious to them that it isn’t. They were lied to for the ’security’ of their family and colleagues.

At :40 in, we see this picture fly up on the screen quickly:

Here are some immediate thoughts: Obvious 70’s attire, points to when Dharma was functional. Other than that, I don’t recognize the man or anything else.

At :49 we see a flash of a building. What building? I don’t know. Reminds me of the building in the Oklahoma bombings.

Halliwax says that the unique properties of the islands give a Casimir Effect. What is the Casimir Effect? It is a physical force exerted between separate objects due to resonance of all-pervasive energy fields in the intervening space between the objects. I know, I don’t understand that either. Basically it is a force between two objects. It also has to do with Nanotechnologies and microtechnologies. I also found this on Wikipedia: Exotic matter with negative energy density is required to stabilize a wormhole. Morris, Thorne and Yurtsever pointed out that the quantum mechanics of the Casimir effect can be used to produce a locally mass-negative region of space-time, and suggested that negative effect could be used to stabilize a wormhole to allow faster than light travel. Read more about it here. Before the Doctor can go on, it is cut off. Almost as if they didn’t want to explain it all.

The next image that jumps on the screen is ‘God loves you as He loved Jacob’. This is reminiscent of Room 23 and the brainwashing that happened there. Is Jacob the Jacob Ben speaks of?

At 1:23 into the video, something to the left falls from the ceiling, followed by quite the panic over another rabbit with a ‘15′ on it appearing on a shelf. This is right after the Doctor said that it was going to be highly volatile and they had high safety practices. The Doctor pleads to not let them near each other and asks “When did you set the shift.” Then he yells at the camera to shut off and this image pops up:

I flipped it so we could see it better. The buildings appear to be brick, which seems to eliminate the village on the island.

After this, the video seems to end with the Dr. restarting the greeting by repeating what he had previously said. Any thoughts?

The guy with the beard looks like Doug Wilcox- I knew he was involved!!!!

There appears to be a figure in front of the building- a giant?

The casmir effect sounds a lot like the magnet/ EMT pulse- all energy fields. Two number 15 rabbits- maybe they are able to duplicate people in a non-reproductive way– maybe having carbon copies of adults is why they can’t reproduce naturally on the island.

I couldn’t care less about the writer’s strike except that only 8 episodes of LOST- that will be rough.

I KNEW it had something to do with timeshifts! [I know I'm not the only one, but I have thought this for ages.]

I was thrilled to see the trailer for the new episodes starting the end of January. Let’s hope the strike resolves itself soon!

    I’m with Beth…that’s Doug Wilcox.

I liked doing this to get our “Lost-juices” going!

    - I’ve heard that we may not want to put too much weight into this video, but it is still legit, nonetheless.

    - the image in front of the building may just be a blur in the video. it was difficult to get it frozen at the right spot, so that may be the blur in the transition.
