Lost: 4.3- “The Economist”- Sayid-centric
Sorry for not having any other posts other than “Lost” lately. Just haven’t got the chance to do anything else.
Here’s an update on the future of the show:
- They will be making 5 more episodes in addition to the 8 already made.
- There will most likely be a 4 week gap between episode 8 and 9, as it will take some time to produce the episodes from start to finish.
- The show will remain on Thursdays, but will move to 10pm, following ‘Ugly Betty’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.
- The three shows that they are dropping (there were supposed to be 16), will be made up in the following seasons. They will re-form the last five episodes to get to the same conclusion they had at the end of a normal 16 episode season. But that doesn’t mean that we’re losing those episodes. They will be made up in seasons 5 and 6.
Nevertheless, here’s this week’s episode!

here are a few of my thoughts:
Island:
1. Jacob’s cabin moves apparently. Hurley had seen it in a different place than Locke did. And oddly, Locke didn’t see it there. I think Ben knew that Locke wouldn’t find the cabin again, because he knows that you only find it if Jacob wants you to.
2. Ben can get on and off the island, as we saw from his hidden room. Is this the connection with C.S. Lewis, with a ‘wardrobe’? the passport said “Dean Moriarty”, and this is a blurb i found on Lostpedia about the name: a central character in On The Road, by Jack Kerouac, who also wrote Dharma Bums. Kerouac’s Moriarty is based on Neal Cassady, who can also be seen in The Electric Koolaid Acid Test, just standing there tossing a hammer up in the air and catching it. Moriarty is also the name of Sherlock Holmes’ arch-nemesis, often considered literature’s first super-villain.
3. Hurley can lie, too! I loved his line, “Oh great, we got another Sawyer.” Miles thinks he has all this power, but is powerless at the moment.
4. “Be sure to follow that exact heading.” Faraday told Lepidus to follow a specific heading when leaving the island. Did this remind anyone of Ben telling Michael to follow a certain heading? It seems like these people were fairly certain about following a specific heading, and to me, the only way they could know that is if Michael gave them that information. that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the mole, but may mean that he’s involved somehow. When he first set off on the raft, his desire was to send back help to everyone. could he somehow have been found and helped the freighter people? I know I’m working off a casual observance, but it seems to hold some water.
5. the bracelet on Naomi: “N. I’ll always be with you. R.G.” Now, I know an R.G., but I doubt he has anything to do with this. A bracelet similar was found on Elsa, who is very similar looking to Shannon.
6. the island is 31 minutes off from normal time?
Flashforward:
1. and another survivor’s life off the island isn’t that great. Sayid is a hitman. He’s hunting men down for Ben.
2. who is Ben protecting? his friends on or off the island? I believe it is those on the island.
3. Whoever Sayid is hunting down, (dharma links?), they know that he’s after them. the guy at the golf course knew once he said something, meaning that they know one is after them. By the time he gets to Berlin, they know its Sayid. Ben doesn’t seem to care.
4. Sayid said, “The day I trust Ben is the day I sold my soul.” interesting…

My favorite comments:
sawyer wanting to cut of Ben’s little piggy’s.
Hurley saying “Great they sent another Ben” to the psycho guy.
Sayid said on the island that the day I trust Ben will be the day I sell my soul- so it’s figurative, but we can tell in the flashfoward that it came to be true.

I don’t know either. But I felt left out earlier.
