Lost 4.8- “Meet Kevin Johnson”- Michael-centric
Well, that’s it for a month! What did you think. No more Karl. No more Roussoue. After all the build up to this episode, I have to say I was somewhat disappointed. You knew that Danielle was going to get shot. The countdown was just over the top. But, hey, at least she got to say she loves her.
But what are your thoughts?

Most interesting new information: the island won’t let Michael die. He’s depressed and suicidal, just like Jack was in last year’s final episode. And Hurley has ended up back in the mental hospital. It appears that the island continues to influence people if they leave it for any length of time, leading to depression/psychosis. The irony is that they can’t kill themselves! Some of The Others can leave the Island, but apparently not for any length of time.
How long has Michael been off the island? A couple of months, island time?
It was interesting that when Michael “sees” visions of Libby, she is carrying blankets, just like she was when Michael shot her.
And who’s the older man in the bed next to Michael in the hospital? It looked like Locke’s father! I know…I know…remember he said he had been in a car accident and suddenly found himself on the island? His consciousness was on the island and his body was back in the NYC hospital bed, comatose after the accident! Just like when Desmond bounced back and forth in time!
I’m getting a little confused about the pot calling the kettle black. Ben claims to be one of the good guys and says Widmore is a bad guy., that he orchestrated the fake plane crash. Widmore’s people claim Ben staged the fake plane crash. Who is telling the truth?
Carl and Rousseau appear to be dead. Are they? And who shot them? I think it’s the hired goons from the ship. Remember that the helicopter was missing and when Sayid asked about it, he was told it was “on an errand”?
Who are the “innocent” people on the boat? The professor certainly seems like an innocent type.
Did you catch the allusion to Star Wars in Carl’s line, “I’ve really got a bad feeling about this.”? And Tim, if anyone caught the reference to Kurt Vonnegut and “Slaugherhouse Five” on the TV game show Michael was watching when he tried to shoot himself in the hotel room…I ‘m sure it would be you. Remember how you liked Vonnegut in HS? Some of his writing go right along with the weirdness of LOST!

Tim, have you read the Time Loop Theory? http://www.timelooptheory.com

I was really sad about Danielle. We invested a lot in the character to have her killed off now. I still want to know about her crew’s sickness, see a Danielle flashback, etc. So sad.

It was good and actually had some surprises (it’s been a little predictable lately)…. and I still contend that what’s-her-name is wearing a wig.

Phew! I actually read the time loop theory! He has done a nice job of tying up most of the loose ends into one theory package. It may need a little refining as time reveals more evidence, though.
His idea about fate not allowing people who have traveled back in time to die (at least until they catch up to their original time) doesn’t apply to Michael, though. He never used a “time machine”. Yet he is not being allowed to die “before his time”.
And his theory about the plane really having crashed in “real time” has now been disproved. The plane at the bottom of the ocean was purposely put there to make people think they had died. Who actually did the “putting” remains to be seen.
If you go back in time and fate lets you die, then your consciousness remains on the island until the island time catches up to the time you died off island. That would explain the “whispers” and why Jacob is “ghosty”. If “Jacob” really is Jack’s Dad, then he left the island, died in Australia & now his “consciousness” is waiting for island time to catch up. He DOES appear alive at times [Jack and the dog have seen him], but apparently flashes “in and out”. That would be similar to Ben’s dead mother appearing to him when he was a child.
I did like his idea that the people on the boat come from three different sources. Remember “everybody’s lying” about something, according to Miles. Michael is working for Ben; Naomi, Daniel, Miles, Charlotte & Frank are working for Abbadon (who may represent Dharma); the rest work for Richard Widmore. That makes sense. I’ve been trying to figure out what connection, if any, Abbadon has to Widmore.
OK…the BIG question he didn’t address is how Walt fits into all of this. I still think Walt is a significant factor. And….why was Naomi wearing a wig….

I nearly screamed when Rousseau got shot. I can’t believe she stood up to run. Duh!
If I were stuck on any island, I’d want Rousseau and Sayid to “have my back.”
I’ve never liked Michael’s character, but seeing him stuck in some sort of painful justice scenario makes me feel a little better.

i forgot to post a note about last week’s episode. Jin isn’t a member of Oceanic 6. His tombstone said that he died on September 22, 2004. That would be on the island. he’s probably the other that Jack referred to as dying on the island, presumably with Claire. But does he die? Or is he still on the island?

September 22, 2004 is the date the plane crashed, so it’s certainly not the real date of his death. But it is the date the world expects him to have died. Sun looked pretty sad… and Hurley wanted to go see him. I think he really died…probably sacrificing himself.
Concerning Claire…Desmond’s future flash saw her getting into a helicopter to leave the island, right? So something must happen to her AFTER that.
I suspect Rousseau IS really dead, though I don’t think it was in character for her to have been picked off so easily. Her storyline had pretty much played out. What future…what unanswered questions were left? I can understand the writers eliminating her. [I know...cold...heartless...] If it wasn’t the people from the ship who shot her, than it could have been the Others, who Ben gave orders to in his mysterious way. He certainly wanted to see Carl and Rousseau out of his daughter’s life…and he is ruthless enough to have them shot.
