Lost- Update from Dharma & “Fringe”

September 12, 2008 at 11:27 am (Lost, fun stuff)

Here is another email update that I was sent from the “Dharma” people.  Here is the text:

ATTENTION ALL RECRUITS
RE: TANGENTIAL JUDGMENT ANALYSIS IS NOW LIVE

Namaste.
I am pleased to announce the release of the fourth assessment in the Dharma Initiative’s Volunteer Recruitment Program is now available at www.dharmawantsyou.com.
This new test will assess your ability to formulate imaginative solutions to a range of conundrums.
Many of you have already demonstrated your ability to think “outside the octagon”, so to speak. I am sure you will find this activity suitably stimulating.
I am also happy to report that a great number of you have enthusiastically embraced the recently released “Recruit Created Assessments” (RCA). Industrious recruits are devising for their colleagues a dizzying array of examination topics that will, no doubt, significantly expand the knowledge base of the Dharma Initiative.
These talented recruits not only stand to significantly increase their Dharma Points but will also be eligible for promotion to the position of “Instructor” in the Volunteer Recruitment Program.
On behalf of the Dharma Initiative I would like to thank these conscientious recruits for their efforts.
Keep up the good work.
Namaste.

Fringe

A lot of you have probably noticed the previews for the new show “Fringe” on Fox on Tuesday nights.  When I first saw the preview, I thought, “Wow!  That’s just like the X-Files.”  Throughout the 90’s, our family was quite hooked on the X-Files.  We loved the story lines, the characters, and the plot that goes through the series.  So I was looking forward to this new show even before I heard the following description:  Fringe is like the ‘X-Files’ meets ‘House’.  I was hooked then.

Unfortunately, I had a meeting on Tuesday night and totally missed the premier, but over the next few days I was able to watch it online during lunch breaks and tedious labeling and mailings.  I have to say, especially to my mother and sister, that this might be the next show to catch on from the beginning and follow.  Leah told me it got great ratings the first night.  It blew the new 90210 out of the water, so that’s nice.  Later, hopefully today, I’ll have a fun story about our time at the LA County Fair!

I caught it online last night. I wasn’t watching with great expectations- but it was JJ Abrams so I had to watch at least the pilot. As it went along I was increasingly impressed. SPOILER: The best part was how Olivia spent the whole show getting her boyfriend fixed up and then 5 min after he’s “healed” she’s chasing him down in her car- awesome. Also, loved the crazy scientist.

I have to say- the eating in the lab, drinking coffee next to your microscope- a total “no no”. Also, there’s no way they could get approval to house a cow that fast- you have to go through a couple months of committees submit your protocols etc…. but besides that- totally realistic!

Don’t worry… I didn’t read Beth’s spoiler. (Thanks for the warning, Beth. I immediately stopped reading. I’ll watch it on-line.)

It would be nice to find another show to enjoy, with LOST starting to wind to it’s conclusion. Btw…I happened to catch the first episode of LOST on SciFi the other night. I still loved it, but in a different way from the first time. Then my imagination was instantly set going, and the anticipation and “what ifs” lingered for days. This time it was nostalgic. I enjoyed seeing characters who have since died… and thinking of them fondly (except for Shannon, of course).

And I noticed for the FIRST TIME, that the actor who played the airline pilot who was pulled out of the cockpit by the “smoke creature” was none other than one of my favorite “Hero” actors… the former policeman who can hear everything. Back when LOST began no one had heard of the guy. What a surprise to recognize him this time!

OK… I just saw it. I can’t wait to see the next episode! I was totally surprised by the end. Guess I stopped reading Beth’s post in time. It’s funny, I wasn’t attracted to her boyfriend at all, but really liked the scientist’s son. He seemed a lot more interesting. Glad things turned out the way they did! I can see us trying to figure out who the “good guys” and “bad guys” are.

I also noticed the background music is just like LOST. They must use the same guy.
