Just when you think that it can’t get any more wierd… Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda comes out and proclaims that he is the messiah! For those of you who have not heard of Jose Luis, he is the leader of a ministry called “Growing in Grace” and teaches that he is divine and Jesus is reincarnated within him.
And it seems like God always pick the most unlikely class members to succeed! De Jesus grew up in Puerto Rico, finding himself in and out of jail for petty theft and struggled with a heroin addiction. Now De Jesus find himself making $136,000 a year plus the gifts showered upon him by his followers.
That’s right, he has followers. Lots of them. He has thousands of members throughout 30 countries. They are loyally devoted to everything that he teaches and are growing quickly. The church was founded 20 years ago in Miami and have quickly become a force in their community.
Other than claiming to be the Messiah, he also claims to be the antichrist. How could this be, you ask? Well, simple hermeneutics tells him that the Antichrist isn’t actually the devil, bu the being who replaces Jesus on Earth. De Jesus takes a cue from the recording artist Pink and says the antichrist is just misunderstood. De Jesus says, “The Antichrist is the best person in the world. Antichrist means don’t put your eyes on Jesus of Nazareth wasn’t a Christian. Antichrist means do no put your eyes on Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Put it on Jesus after the cross.” Funny how it took 2,000 years for “Jesus after the cross to show up.”
But how could he be misunderstood? simple! there is no such thing as sin! Sin and the devil are none existant. A convenient fact for the followers and for De Jesus himself. The followers have shown the extent of their comittment by getting a tatoo of ‘666’ on them. They also have made a habit of going to Christian churches and disrupting services and smashing crosses and statues of Jesus.
I noticed that he will be interviewed on ABC at 9pm on Tuesday. I’ll be out at that point, but I got someone to tape it for me so I can watch it later. I’d challenege you to watch it and ask yourself, what would you say to confront these beliefs?
UPDATE I wrote a post on how Jose Luis lives up to the writings of Paul. Check it out!
