CORE Week 2008: The Weight of Glory

As some of you know, this week marks our 9th annual CORE Week. If you don’t know what that is, it’s basically a week where we have ‘VBS’ every night, but for Jr High and High Schoolers. I call it ‘VBS on steroids’. We have a big time of some crazy recreation on the field, then FaceDown, our youth band, plays. We show some fun videos, whether they be a staff intro video, wake-up calls (where we invade bedrooms at an obscene time in the morning), testimonies, and rec videos of the day before. At the end I give a message that is tied into the theme. It is generally evangelistic in nature, but most of the kids that come have had some experience with church, though they may have walked away.

This year’s theme is “The Weight of Glory: Looking to the Unseen” from II Corinthians 4:16-18. The deco theme is a sports theme, so we have uprights, a basketball hoop, hockey stuff, badminton, golf, squash, and baseball.  We even got a green monster that has the score from game 2 of the Angels vs. Red Sox ALDS last year.   If you don’t remember, Manny hit a three run home run in the bottom on the ninth.

Here are some pics from the set up!

This is this year’s sign, although they added a section below that says “Looking to the Unseen”.  I have to say that this may be my favorite sign we’ve had.

This is my white rapper TBN picture.  G-lory

This is our finished product.  It came together pretty well, I think.

To make it perfect you should have added the Citgo sign above the Green Monster! Did anyone out there even know what the Green Monster was? I hope you explained all that during your Bible teaching. 😉
